Cleaning out the Pantry…

Well, you wouldn’t believe what all I had to throw away in the pantry this past week that was outdated. I had to throw away soybean oil, safflower oil, red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, onion powder, etc… I didnt think I had them that long, but I guess I did. Time to restock I guess. I hope everyone has had a nice weekend, it has been so nice out. Good time to try some new recipes out to, so thats my plans for this week. If anyone has any recipes to share, please feel free to do so, with pics if possible. Have a great week everyone, and until next time, Happy Baking. :):)

TGIF…

Happy Friday everyone. I just wanted to share a quick recipe with ya’ll that I got from a fellow blogger. It is AMAZING!!!!  Banana Rice Krispie Treats. Perfect anytime, especially for breakfast.

Banana Rice Krispie Treats  (Serves 16)

5 cups Rice Krispies

1/4 cup margarine

10 1/2 oz. bag mini marshmallows

1 box (3.4 oz) banana cream instant pudding mix

Instructions:

Butter a 9 inch square baking dish. Set aside. In a large pot, melt margarine on medium heat. Add in marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted. Remove from heat. Fold in pudding mix until fully combined. Fold in cereal. Immediately pour into prepared baking dish. Using buttered fingers, press treats slightly in the pan to make even (don’t over press or they get hard and dry tasting). Allow to set 20 minutes or more before cutting and eating. Enjoy. YUMMY….

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIA CHILD….

Today Julia would have turned 100 years old. WOW!!! I remember watchin her before we had food network and cooking chanel. Julia was born August 15, 1912 in Pasadena, California. In 1948 she moved to France where she developed the love for French cuisine. With the goal of adapting Americans to the French cuisine, she collaborated on a two volume cookbook “Mastering the art of French Cooking.” Julia also became a television icon with her cooking show The French Chef, and was the inspiration of the 2009 movie Julie and Julia which ironically was based on a blog. I feel this is what put cooking blogs on the map. As a child Julia’s family had accumulated a significant wealth and she never wanted for anything and went to the best of schools. Julia was known as a prankster, very athletic and adventurous. She was a very tall girl, standing at 6 foot 2. Besides cooking, Julia had a talent for golf, tennis, and small game hunting. So, on this day that she would have been 100 years old, Happy Birthday, Julia. :):) Image

Summer’s coming to a close…

Well ya’ll, as summer starts to wind down and all the craziness of back to school begins, I am ready for the fall. I love all the smells and flavors of fall and I have tons of new recipes to test out. But before I do all that, I need to clear out the pantry and organize. I am horrible when it comes to organizing, meaning I am so PICKY…I can’t stand it when things are moved around and then I can’t find anything, so I am working in the kitchen this week to get everything just the way I want and need it to be. To start out with today, I just finished chopping all my onions and freezing in baggies to have for soups. I also cut up all my garlic cloves and froze them as well. It is much cheaper to buy in bulk bags, but sometimes I just can’t use them all without them going bad on me, so I decided to freeze the ones I had and then I will buy some more fresh ones this week. Now my next project is to go thru all my spices, herbs, and oils and see what is outdated. I hate knowing that perfectly good spices and oils have to be thrown out if they are outdated, so wasteful. So I am going to try and start making as much as I can with them and try to use them all up. Until next time…Have a happy day. :):)
